Trauma

The word trauma is a well-known term in our society and we all have experienced trauma on some level in our lives. The most common designations are Little T trauma’s(bullying, injuries, death of a loved one, verbal and emotional abuse) to Big T trauma’s(sexual abuse, life threatening experiences, or physical abuse) with other types of trauma experiences in between. As you are reading this section some memories may be coming to mind and perhaps there are emotions you are feeling and/or suppressing. Often times we compare with others saying, “Well what I went through was not as bad as….” However, this tends to invalidate challenges we have faced leading to unresolved emotional pain.

Regardless of what you have been through or the emotional turmoil experienced “You are Seen and “You are Not Alone.” There is hope for healing from situations that seem impossible to overcome. From your traumatic experiences you may thinking negatively of yourself and see yourself as less than while feeling strong emotions of anger, sadness, anxiety, shame, disappointment, which maybe has led to poor choices in everyday life. It is time to begin a journey of healing and get back to a place of wholeness.

At Restore to Life Counseling we will listen and empathize with your experiences and help you uncover the deeper wounds surrounding your trauma/s. We will create a transformation plan with you and walk at your pace through this healing journey. Our traumas impact our mindset and beliefs toward self and others. So, if we believe we are worthless, broken, a failure, or not enough our actions will follow these beliefs systems.  You will be empowered with tools to start the healing journey and learn ways to reframe the experiences you have been through with truth based thinking so you can live your life more freely.

Below are some basic areas we would cover. This list is not exhaustive list and if you have tried some of these approaches, we can talk about what has worked and not worked to better tailor the direction of sessions:

  • Compassionately talk through your trauma journey and attachment in relationships
  • Talk through emotional symptoms you experience (anxiety, grief, anger) and how to acknowledge/engage those in a productive manner
  • Explore negative thoughts and beliefs that are holding you back from enjoying life and learn to renew your mind with truth statements
  • Talk through various approaches and options to heal the traumatic experience(s)
  • If you are a follower of Jesus we will talk through your questions, His heart for you in the midst of your pain and suffering, and how to deepen your walk with Him to experience connection, peace, joy, and freedom.
