Porn! This word tends to bring a lot of weight for people, because so many have been impacted in one way or another. In fact, the porn industry continues to be a billion-dollar industry, many marriages, kids, relationships, and lives continue to be negatively impacted and destroyed by it year after year. Porn addiction can be summarized as a continuous action to view others doing a sexual act and using that person for their own self-gratification/pleasure. Through porn use you devalue the other person and yourself while distorting what love truly is. So many youth and adults want to be free, but don’t know how to or believe everything has tried and failed. As someone who has personally delt with porn addiction during my high school and even into my college years I understand the pull, temptation, and shame associated. So many fall into porn innocently or are introduced to it and this has a direct impact on what you believe love is, and what healthy relationships look like. If you are reading this, remember this is not who you are and this is not hopeless! There are a variety of reasons why porn is being viewed and if you are wanting to stop you are not alone, you are not a lost cause, there is hope, and freedom is available.
At Restore to Life Counseling we find that many view porn to fulfill deeper desires for relational connection and cope with negative beliefs about self and previous negative experiences in life.
